Did you know that every year, approximately 30 Million working days are lost due to work related illnesses and injury? As an employer, you are legally responsible for the health & safety of your staff whilst they are at work, and for providing adequate and appropriate training in order to reduce the risks of injury, and also to have the necessary safeguards in place as a precaution.

At All Wales Ambulance Services Ltd, we are dedicated to assisting you with this duty. We provide a wide range of Health & Safety training catered to your needs. There are many options available with us concerning how you will receive your training, and we have Training Officers on our staff, devoted to fulfilling your needs.

We hold full HSE approval, and all our training is practical and thorough, whilst remaining light, informal and relaxed. Our trainers are all experienced staff from different industries, including medical backgrounds, nursing staff, and ambulance attendants. They have the practical experience required to deliver a meaningful and memorable training experience.

Our courses are flexible to suit your needs, and we can add to the daily syllabus certain specific details and scenarios if requested. For example, if you work in an environment with lots of children, such as a school, we can help to provide more practical sessions on child CPR, and we’ll discuss injuries children often sustain and how to deal with them. Conversely if you work in a factory with glass, we may focus more on blood loss management and help your employees to be well prepared for any likely incidents.

Also now available are our annual training contracts. If you have a large number of employees who require Health & Safety training, we can offer you a number of courses over a 12-monthly period. We provide you with all necessary dates and you simply send your employees along to the courses until you reach your limit. You then lock in a monthly payment for one year, along with a substantial discount. Essentially, you could end up receiving a group’s training for free! Note that as well as the financial benefits, there are the managerial benefits – finding it easier to send employees off at a time that better suits you, for example.

Changes to First Aid Training

The following includes some information which will be important to all companies, and First Aid Training providers. The HSE has recently come to a decision about the latest changes to First Aid Training, specifically the way it is delivered and the details surrounding HSE approval for courses.

Taken from the HSE Website:

"In brief, when the new courses are introduced (possibly early 2009 but the exact timing will depend on the outcome of the work described in this paper), employers will be able to send prospective first aiders on either:
a full three day course in First Aid at Work (FAW); or
a one day course in emergency first aid at work (EFAW)"

It has now been confirmed that these changes are due to take effect on the 1st of October 2009.

At AWAS, we have taken this update as an ideal opportunity to overhaul our own training protocols and delivery. We are reviewing our presentations for each course, as well as our detailed syllabus. A new brochure should be available by the middle of August, which will have full details of all the courses available.
